1. General Release Notes
========================

   Updates, as and when they become available are placed on our
   web-site at www.seetrax.com.

2. Installation information
===========================

   Ranger2/Windows will run under the following Windows operating
   systems: 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000 and XP.

   The Ranger2/Windows software will be installed in the folder
   you specify, by default it is:
	C:\Program Files\Seetrax\r2win

   Libraries will be placed in a folder called Winr2Masters off
   the folder specified for Ranger2.

   Sample jobs are supplied in a folder called SampleDesigns
   off the folder specified for Ranger2.

   When printing using any MS Windows printer driver, if you
   find that arcs are printing "back-to-front", close the job,
   select File > System Setup, tick the box alongside "Reverse
   direction of printed arcs", then select OK to close the
   window. Open the job and print again.

3.0 Licensing Information
=========================

   With effect from version 2.60.30, Ranger 2 for Windows is
   supplied as a 'freeware' application. All requirements for
   a license key have been removed, and the application performs
   with the design capacity limits of previous fully licensed
   versions.
   Please read the file 'license.txt' for terms of use of the
   freeware version of Ranger 2 for Windows.

4. Specctra auto-router selection
=================================

   If you have purchased the Specctra auto-router, you will need
   to tell Ranger that it is available. Run up Ranger2, then
   select File > System Setup.
   Tick the box alongside Cooper & Chyan Technology Specctra
   Auto-router then select OK to close the window. The Specctra
   interface can now be accessed from the Artwork menu.

5. Update notes for Ranger1 and Ranger2/DOS Users
=================================================

   *	Libraries have been supplied with Ranger2/Windows. They
	have not been modified since the DOS release, but have
	been resaved in the new Ranger2/Windows format. They
	will be found off the Ranger2 folder in a folder called
	Winr2Masters.

	You can	delete the supplied library files and copy your
	DOS library files across if you want to use your
	existing DOS master libraries.

	The Ranger2/Windows master library paths can be changed
	to use your existing Ranger master libraries, how-
	ever the libraries will be saved in a different
	format which will make them impossible to use afterwards
	from Ranger1 or Ranger2/DOS.

	For this reason we recommend that you copy your
	library files into a separate Ranger2/Windows library
        directory. This will allow you to still use Ranger1 or
        Ranger2/DOS if you want to (but you will
	have two libraries to maintain).

	The library paths are specified by selecting FILE >
	SYSTEM SETUP.

*	In Ranger2/Windows each job is held as one file with an
	extension of .r2, instead of lots of files with
	different extensions (ie J01.NCR, J01.NDL, J01.OLB,
        etc.)

*	Jobs created in Ranger1 or Ranger2 for DOS can be loaded
        into Ranger2 for Windows, however they will be saved in
        the new, one file format (you will be prompted for a new
	name). This means that your original job remains as it
	is, but the newly saved job can only be loaded into
	Ranger2 for Windows.

*	When opening a job, you must specify which type of job
	you want to open, either a DOS type job or a Windows
	type job. The file type is selected from the bottom of
	the File > Open window.

	If the DOS Ranger1 & 2 job index (job.idx) type is
	selected, you can browse around to locate your Ranger1
        or Ranger2/DOS jobs directory, the file job.idx is
        listed. When it is double selected, the job index
        appears listing all the existing jobs which can be
        loaded. The jobs will be saved (when you save them) as
        a Ranger2 for Windows job (.r2) file type.

*	There is no automatic save when leaving "editors" now
	(for example when you left the schematic editor,
	parts/wiring list editor, outline editor etc., the
	changes were saved in the DOS version).
	The only time data is saved in the Windows version is
	when you actually select File > Save, or File > Save As.

*	There is no auto-save facility - so you MUST take
	regular	saves and backup copies.

*	It's not possible to use circuit macros made in Ranger1
	or Ranger2/DOS in R2/Windows. However, create a new job
	in R2/DOS and place all the macros on the circuit
	diagram. Open the job in R2/Windows and re-create the
	macros.
